About us

Roman Seminar

The Roman Seminar is a scholarly forum dedicated to advancing the study of Greece as part of the Roman world, from the time of the Roman conquest to Late Antiquity. It was founded in 2012 as an initiative to bring together scholars of all disciplinary backgrounds and to encourage closer collaboration in this emerging field.  Τhe Seminar is devoted to showcasing research on all aspects of the culture and society of Roman Greece and to promoting knowledge about its rich heritage and its relevance in the contemporary global world.

Steered by an organizing committee with members based in Greece and abroad, the Seminar operates through a range of academic events, publishing, and outreach. The main thrust of its activities is an annual series of lectures taking place between October and May. The lectures are open to all, and they are followed by discussion. In addition to inviting speakers, we welcome proposals by interested individuals of all institutional and non-institutional backgrounds. We have hosted numerous events, both autonomously and in collaboration with Greek academic institutions and the foreign archaeological schools based in Athens.

The Organizing Committee: Francesco Camia (University "La Sapienza"), Valentina Di Napoli (University of Patras), Vassilis Evangelidis (Athena Research Centre), Dimitris Grigoropoulos (DAI), Stavros Vlizos (Ionian University).
